    Eligibility

    • Education: Graduation in any discipline from a recognised university. Final-year students can usually apply, provided they meet the deadline given in the notification.
    • Age: 21 to 30 years, with relaxation for reserved categories as per government rules.
    • Nationality: Indian citizen (and certain other categories as listed in the notification).

    Selection Process

SBI PO selection happens in three phases:

    1. Preliminary Exam: a screening test. Marks are not counted in the final merit.
    2. Main Exam: an objective test plus a descriptive English test.
    3. Phase III: a psychometric test, a group exercise and an interview.

The final merit list is based on Mains and Phase III marks together.

Current affairs from the last six months, RBI policies, banking terms, government schemes and basic economics.

    Salary and Career Growth

A newly appointed SBI PO starts with a basic pay of ₹48,480 per month, which includes four advance increments. With dearness allowance, house rent or leased accommodation, and other benefits, the total package is much higher than the basic pay. POs typically move into Assistant Manager and Deputy Manager roles within a few years, depending on performance and internal exams.

    A Seven-Month Preparation Plan

    MonthWhat to Do
1–2Build basics in all three Prelims subjects; read a newspaper daily
3Start sectional tests; learn short methods for calculation
4Begin Mains-level puzzles and data interpretation
5Two full Prelims mocks every week; start banking awareness notes
6Alternate Prelims and Mains mocks; practise descriptive writing
7Revise, analyse mocks, and fix weak topics

    Common Mistakes to Avoid

    • Spending too long on one puzzle in Prelims. Learn to skip and return.
    • Ignoring English because it “feels easy”. It carries 40 marks in Prelims.
    • Reading current affairs without revision. Make short notes and revise them weekly.
    • Taking mocks without analysing them. The analysis teaches you more than the test.
